A return visit to the
Arizona – Sonoran Desert Museum
We visited this outdoor museum last year when we made a short stop in the Tucson area. This time we have been able to explore more aspects of the natural desert environment both at the museum and on the desert trails adjacent to our RV park– the animals, plants, minerals, aquatic life, and native birds of prey.
Two Stages of the Agave Century Cactus
Desert Trails RV Park
Our home away from home in Tucson is actually west of Tucson
about 10 miles in the Sonoran Desert. The park has its own system of hiking and
mountain biking trails and adjoins the Tucson Mountain Park system of trails. At the RV Park we have the usual facilities
as well as some very unusual offerings.
Twice a week we have entertainment provided by a variety of traveling groups.
Our first night a family group, father and 4 adopted mixed heritage children ranging
in age from 10 to 16, did an excellent performance of bluegrass/gospel music. The next week we enjoyed a professional
classical guitarist followed later in the week by a keyboard player and jazz
singer duo. This week our entertainer was of American Indian and Scottish
descent and played Celtic/Indian music. Tonight’s small group is called the Mudbugs
and promises a variety of American music.
Will let you know what actually happens. Also, twice week the park is
visited by a restaurant truck. So if you
do not want to cook for dinner you can try Peruvian Chinese one night, then
German brats, or Indian tacos or Italian pasta on another. All that we have tried have been delicious.
Tucson Quilt Guild
Fiesta
Enjoy the show. Most are best viewed enlarged. Just click to
enlarge the picture.
This vintage quilt from the 1950's is a twin to the quilt given my mother by
her women’s sewing group when we moved from Iowa to NJ in 1952. It was given to
me when she moved to Florida in the 1970’s. Mine shows a lot of family usage.
This quilt was “Best in Show” at the Tucson Fiesta. It is paper pieced.
These quilts represent the Arizona theme.
These quilts are incredible creative.
The details in this quilt are science and mathematics based.
This quilt is entirely created by individual thread
stitches of many colors.
This last quilt looked like a random set of squares and
rectangles when viewed up close. Only when
you moved to about 30 feet away did you see the portrait.
Who is this?
All of the work of the Arizona quilters at this show was very
creative and original. Hoped you enjoyed
the show as much as we did.
Tucson Rodeo
Yesterday we watched the rodeo parade and attended the
afternoon rodeo events. More about this
in our next posting.
