Posting number 2 for July 11, 2016

Over the past few days we have traversed across the middle of Canada.  Passing from Ontario to Manitoba the landscape changed from hills and large lakes to the endless prairie and ponds populated by ducks, geese and loons.

From the 1920’s through the 1950’s wheat, oats and flax were the major crops. Now this agricultural area is dominated by golden fields of canola.

We happened to see in the Reader’s digest July/Aug 2016, this interesting fact about Kansas.

“It’s the state that was proved to be - quite literally - flatter than a pancake.  Scientists tested the flatness of the state against the topography of a pancake.  On a zero-to-one scale of perfect flatness, Kansas was flatter, with a score of 0.9997.  The pancake scored only 0.957.”

It is our opinion, after driving across Kansas numerous times, a comparable score for Manitoba would be 0.999999.

This is the Canadian way to chase away Canada Geese

AND IT WORKS!!!

We have not yet seen many live animals so these will need to substitute for awhile.

How far have we come?

When we left New Jersey the odometer read 11279 miles.

Now the odometer reads 22511 kilometers.  That's how far so far.
